I would like to start off this week by asking the media (ESPN) to get a clue before they speak. At the end of the Fla/Miami game when Fla. coach Urban Meyer elected to kick a field goal instead of taking a knee, thereby running out the clock, Kirk Herbstreet said that Meyer was doing so (adding points to the board) for recruiting purposes and Brent Musberger, who has been known to place a wager or two, quietly agreed. On Monday, all of the talking heads on radio and TV gave every opinion as to whether or not Florida did the right thing by running up the score. Every sports bettor knows that the line on this game began at 21 and went as high as 24, and that a lot of cash would have been at stake in the state of Florida over this game by school alumni. So basically, Meyer was trying to get the cover for his alumni to keep them happy and anyone who argues this point is naive. Notre Dame/San Diego St In hindsight, we should have had a play on the Aztecs. How does a team that wins only 3 games the previous season become a 21-point favorite in their first game? Notre Dame's skill players on offense looked slow. Boston College 5th year senior QB Crane struggled with accuracy and decision making. Georgia Tech New Head Coach Paul Johnson has more talent that ever before in his career. As the season goes on and the players learn his system and cut down on TO's, G-Tech will improve.QB Nesbitt, first-year starter, was a top recruit and will make mistakes but has talent. Defense played well vs. BC. Ole Miss: QB Snead,a transfer from Texas (pocket passer)reminds me of Eli Manning when he played there. They have the wide receivers but poor special teams. East Carolina Two upset wins in a row vs. Virginia Tech and West Virginia. These guys are for real, but will be in the role of favorite from now on. New MexicoPlayed Texas A&M closer than the score reveals. Texas AM QB McGee left in 1st quarter, RB Goodsen left game due to injuries. Defense can't stop the run. Virginia: QB Lalich will not play vs. UConn (legal issues). Charlie Scott Sports is off to a good start for the NCAA season, going 4-2 in the first week and 3-0 this past week.
